Why your need the Types of Water Filtration Systems You’ll Find at Orbic (Solar & Water)
It should come as no surprise to learn that South Africa is in the “hot seat” with its waste water management policies and procedures. Not only are we in the midst of one of the worst droughts since 1992, but we’re also struggling to clean and recycle our own waste water. While it’s a basic human right of every South African to have access to clean drinking water – this is not the case at all. A recent report measuring municipal national wastewater treatment plants revealed that out of South Africa’s 850 waste water plants, only 7% are complying with benchmarks and standards, which mean the rest are either running operations illegally or not running at all. Unfortunately, this has had detrimental effects on both quality and quantity. Not only are our municipalities dumping millions of litres of raw sewage into oceans, rivers and dams each day, but it’s come to our attention that our tap water is of poor drinking quality.
While we’ve been led to believe that our tap water is among the best and cleanest in the world, a recent study conducted by the University of Stellenbosch painted a very different picture. Results revealed that our tap water is polluted with pharmaceuticals. That’s right, we’re drinking pharmaceuticals! While scientists and geologists predict further decreased water flow and water quality, many industries, communities, private organizations can now turn to Orbic (Solar and Water) for the following solutions.
#1 Reverse Osmosis
Used by most leading water bottling plants, reverse osmosis has become the most economical and efficient method of removing 90% to 99% of all contaminants from water. RO use a membrane that is capable of rejecting practically every type of particle, bacteria and organics – reverse osmosis filtration systems effectively removes many contaminants such as arsenic, fluoride, asbestos and heavy metals. While these filters boast impressive capabilities, keep in mind that they also remove necessary minerals such as magnesium and calcium. Beautifully designed, compact, easy to install and easy to use, these filtration systems come in a holding tank that can be mounted under the sink.
#2 Ultra-filtration (UF)
Ultra filtration (UF) is a type of membrane filtration in which hydrostatic pressure forces a liquid against a semipermeable membrane. Once used only for desalination, today, UF is increasingly used for the removal of all particles over 10-20 nm in size which affect colour, taste and odour. When strategically paired with other purification technologies in a complete water treatment system, Ultra-filtration is most powerful in the removal of algae, bacteria, colloids, germs, organic molecules, pollen, proteins, pyrogens, viruses, and macro molecules larger than the membrane pore size from water.
We Can Make Your Water Ultra-Pure at a a low cost
Orbic S&W we are committed to solving South Africa’s water challenges in a sustainable and cost effective manner. What is the next step?
Boreholes and Well-points
Before planing to consume borehole water , you must first get your water tested properly if you are getting it from a borehole or well point. Borehole water can be full of heavy metals and lithium salts that can be extremely harmful to your workers or families life’s. If you have tested your borehole many years ago, its a good idea to perform a test every 5 years or earlier, to be assure that underground toxins have not moved into your reservoir.
Harvesting tanks and underground storage
many possibilities exist to clean water from these sources, we will be able to assist you with the proper filtration system.
We are always eager to assist, so please contact us, if you need any assistance with your water projects no matter the size.
